Bink is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. We will never sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to target you. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Bink Technologies Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales. We operate the Bink platform at bink.com — a secure personal document management service that processes emails sent to your Bink address and files the documents they contain.
For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Bink Technologies Ltd is the data controller for personal data processed through our platform.

This is important. Some documents contain special category data under UK GDPR Article 9 — health information, financial details, immigration documents, and others. Bink treats these differently.
When our AI classification system detects that an incoming email may contain special category data, it is intercepted automatically and not filed. The email content is not extracted or stored. Instead:
Special categories we intercept include: health and medical information, sensitive financial data (pension values, investment portfolios, mortgage balances), political affiliations, religious organisation memberships, trade union correspondence, immigration documents, and family-sensitive documents (divorce, adoption, custody).
We also intercept emails containing security credentials (passwords, seed phrases, API keys) to protect you from accidental exposure.
| Processing activity | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Receiving and classifying emails at your Bink address | Contract performance — this is the core service you signed up for |
| Storing documents in your vault | Contract performance |
| Sending you notification emails | Contract performance (essential) / Consent (marketing) |
| Analytics cookies | Consent |
| Maintaining deletion and audit logs | Legal obligation |
| Processing special category data | Explicit consent — you opt in to the relevant tier |
We operate a strict data minimisation policy. Retention periods by data type:
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Filed documents (Core plan) | 30 days from receipt, then automatically purged |
| Filed documents (Plus plan) | 90 days from receipt |
| Filed documents (Complete plan) | 365 days from receipt |
| Article 9 held items | 30 days, then automatically purged if not actioned |
| Account data | Duration of account, plus 12 months after deletion |
| Your Bink address | Reserved for 12 months after account deletion — not re-assigned |
| Deletion and audit logs | 7 years (legal obligation) |
Retention is enforced automatically by our purge system. We do not manually review or selectively retain data beyond these periods.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with providers, insurers, or advertisers. Full stop.
We use a small number of trusted third-party processors to operate the service:
All processors are bound by data processing agreements and operate under UK GDPR-equivalent standards.
Under UK GDPR you have the following rights, all of which are exercisable directly from your Bink dashboard:
We will respond to all rights requests within 30 days. There is no charge for exercising your rights.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
